Outreach Ambassadors

WiSTEM Outreach Ambassadors are a team of undergraduate STEM students who are trained in communication and professional skills, learn effective practices to engage girls and all students in STEM, and lead campus and community STEM outreach. WiSTEM Outreach Ambassadors represent WiSTEM on campus and in the community, reaching 2,000+ K-12 students and the public annually.

WiSTEM Outreach Ambassadors are part of a larger Student Leadership Ecosystem that supports and fosters a network of STEM student leaders from the greater WiSTEM student leadership community.

What do Outreach Ambassadors do?

WiSTEM Outreach Ambassadors represent WiSTEM on campus and in the community. They may:

  • Lead campus and community STEM outreach.
  • Facilitate hands-on STEM activities.
  • Serve as role models and communicators.
  • Participate in leadership training and career exploration with the WiSTEM Student Leadership Ecosystem.
  • Host events, speak at panels, and guide campus tours.
  • Support University recruitment with prospective high school student events and engagements.
  • Promote STEM to the Kindergarten – 12th-grade community through hands-on STEM activities, presentations, panel discussions, and other community opportunities.

  • Earn a K-12 STEM Outreach Digital Microcredential.
  • Gain access to WiSTEM Student Leadership Ecosystem training, resources, and events.
  • Have priority for any WiSTEM paid outreach positions, including STEM Girl Day Coordinator and Summer Camp Counselor roles.

What are the Requirements?

In addition to being a degree-seeking UT Austin student in good academic standing, all WiSTEM Outreach Ambassadors must:

  1. Complete an online, asynchronous K-12 STEM Outreach training.
  2. Attend one in-person training (typically held on a Saturday morning early in the fall and spring semesters).
  3. Attend team meetings each semester or as called (various participation options will be available).
  4. Serve as student coordinator or other leadership role at STEM Girl Day at UT Austin.
  5. Volunteer and participate in at least 4 campus, community, or virtual STEM-related activities or initiatives during the academic year.
  6. Complete an activity report for each volunteer activity.
  7. Be responsive and frequently communicate with the Outreach Ambassador Program Coordinator, Peer Coaches, and other Outreach Ambassadors.
